正 文: 英国风景画家。生于伦敦，卒于伦敦。童年已表现出绘画才能，从画地形图开始艺术事业。1789年在画家T.马尔顿门下受过短期训练。1790年第一次在皇家美术学院展出水彩画。1796年展出油画《海上渔人》，次年又展出《密尔班克的月光》，两幅画都受17世纪荷兰海景画的影响。1802年被选为皇家美术学院院士，1807～1838年任皇家美术学院透视学教授。
